Fair Housing for Frome would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported their Zero Nights scheme to bring homeless people in from the cold over the winter months.
Sioux How and Alison Murdoch from Fair Housing for Frome say, “We’re very happy to report that due to the generosity of 62 different people, the crowdfunder appeal that we launched in November has now reached its goal of £3,000. This money will be used to supplement the grant awarded by Frome Town Council to fund the scheme.
“None of this could have happened without the two venues that have offered free space for our use. We’ve also been overwhelmed by thoughtful gifts of food, clothes and bedding, as well as offers of hairdressing and dog care. Due to limited storage space, we’re now requesting for a pause on donations for the time being. And last but not least, we’re deeply grateful to the 36 amazing volunteers who attended the training we organized before Christmas and have been enthusiastically volunteering for the evening, overnight and breakfast shifts needed to run the shelter each night. There’s also the two kind people who’ve offered a four-wheel drive taxi service when our volunteers are snowed in.
“Zero Nights is currently on hold while the weather is warmer, but we’re ready to open up again as soon as the temperature drops. In addition to saving lives, one of our aims is to help homeless people access advice, support and accommodation via our partner Elim Connect Centre, so we’re glad to report a modest decrease in the number of people sleeping rough in and around Frome while Zero Nights has been up and running.”
