LAST month saw the city of Bath host the second of the Two Tunnels Railway Races for 2017.
Paul Drew (M20-29) was representing Frome Running Club in the Return Ticket Half Marathon, completing the course in 02:15:27. Sarah Smallbone (FV50-59) lined up for the 10K Return Ticket along with Anne Porter (FV50-59). Sarah crossed the line in 00:51:37, followed shortly after by Anne in 00:57:00.
Over in Radstock, more runners were lining up for the Jack and Jill 10K off-road race. Peter Larman (MV40) completed the course in 00:49:58, earning himself 5th place in category. He was followed by Ian Holmes (MV40) in 00:53:31, Martin Taylor (MV50) in 01:01:04 and Kirsty Cary (SF) in 01:13:45. Peter Lee (MV70) crossed the line in 01:16:51 to bag 1st position in category.
On Saturday, 20 May, two Frome club runners lined up to take on the West Country Ultra flat 50-miler, a challenging 50-mile route that takes runners on an off-road course from Taunton to Minehead. Fiona Norris and Kate Wareham completed this challenge in an impressive time of 12:39:20.
The following day saw the 2nd annual Dilton Dash held in the Wiltshire village of Dilton Marsh. The club fielded a strong contingent of athletes for this 10K race along footpaths and tracks around Dilton. Once again, Pete Larman was the first Fromie to finish, with his time of 00:42:23 earning him 5th position overall. Hot on his heels was Shane Ford with a time of 00:46:20. He was followed by Giles Padfield in 00:46:22, Anthony Sprules in 00:47:49, Chris Stringer in 00:49:21 and Marcus Gaffney in 00:52:48. Adrian Mead crossed the line in 00:52:55, followed by Martin Taylor in 00:55:01, Ellie Jones in 00:55:47 and Elizabeth Evans in 00:56:34. Julie Chilvers posted a time of 00:56:40, Sarah Smallbone 00:56:51, Rachel Brenni 00:58:50 and Lucy Gaffney 00:58:57. Catharine Dowling came in at just over an hour in 01:01:32, followed by Christian Coates in 01:01:59, Emma Evans in 01:02:12, Dave Perrett in 01:04:21 and Laura Francis in 01:04:36. Graham Farley completed the course in 01:08:53, Lynette Grimstead in 01:14:40 and Judith O’Connor in 01:14:41.
