Frome Bridge Club took part on 4th February in the Michael Coda Cup, a charity event, held this year in aid of the Penny Bruhn cancer support charity. Bridge clubs from all over Somerset took part.
Marianne Lewin reports, “The event was particularly well-attended in Frome, with 23 pairs taking part, 215 pairs taking part county-wide. The Cup is a long-standing tradition in Somerset, with all the same bridge hands being played at clubs around Somerset over the course of a week.
“Frome’s leading players in this competition were: Jenny Hazelgrove and Geoffrey Jerrom-pugh, 7th, Marianne Lewin and Norman Bishop 9th, and John Brown and Chris Hogan 11th.
“As those of you who follow such things in this paper will know, Frome Bridge Club has re-invented itself over the past few years. It is affiliated to the English Bridge Union, and plays Duplicate Bridge at Wesley Methodist Church at 7.00pm on Monday evenings, whilst at 9.15am on Thursday mornings there is teaching for beginners and improvers followed by assisted play.
“The most important thing about the club is that it is very friendly and unthreatening, even for those of you who are beginners, or who played bridge many years ago. If you want to, you can simply turn up on a Thursday morning, although you would need a partner to come on a Monday. It’s inexpensive, and the biscuits are excellent!
