Two local brothers are planning to walk over 600 miles of the British coastline this spring, to raise money for mental health charity Mind.
David and Steven Waters, who have both suffered from depression over the past 10 years, have decided to walk the 630 mile South West Coast Path to raise funds and increase awareness of mental health issues.
Steven, who has lived in Frome for many years and helps run Paccamora Cafe on Catherine Hill said, “It’s a real challenge, but we are determined to promote a greater understanding of mental health and get people talking freely about a subject which still suffers from a certain stigma.”
David and Steven are training hard for the walk, which will start in Minehead at the end of March and finish almost six weeks later in Poole. That’s a journey of 630 miles (1008km) through four counties.
Steven said, “I read somewhere that during the full distance of the coast path, you climb the equivalent of four Mount Everests. I don’t think we’ll be in need of oxygen, but I’m sure the landscape and the views will be breathtaking.”
