FROME Outdoors Programme is under way with a busy February and is appealing for more volunteers to join the outdoor working parties.
The groups meet regularly and do landscaping and gardening work around the Frome area, including weekly meetings at The Mount Community Garden and regular work on the Sustrans cycle path. There will also be litter picks along the river from March.
Organiser Sarah Russell says, “Doing active work outdoors is great for health, wellbeing and friendship, while at the same time improving open spaces for people, landscape and nature.
“There are several groups in and around Frome that rely on volunteers to help with outdoor work. All events are free unless otherwise indicated and task leaders will ensure that the work you do is within your capability.”
Upcoming events include:
• Every Thursday 9.30am to 11am: Mount Community Garden, Feltham Lane, Frome. Light gardening, planning the veg growing for this year. Drop-in, go to www.mcafrome.org.uk for information.
• Most Fridays 9am to 4pm: Help Sustrans to extend the off-road cycleway to Frome. The work involves cutting back vegetation (brambles, small trees) removing rails, building steps, benches, installing drainage systems etc. Different locations each week. Call 01373 462549 for details.
• Saturday 25th February 10.30am to 12.30pm: FROGS volunteer sessions at the Roundhouse Garden. Contact Liz Hutchinson, lizhutchinson01@yahoo.co.uk

Sarah added, “Frome Outdoors Programme aims to put together all that’s going on. If you run practical outdoor activities and aren’t yet in the programme, please send your list of monthly activities to fromeoutdoors@gmail.com
