BATH Male Choir is inviting prospective new members to come and experience the joys of singing – and with plans to tour Nashville, USA, next year, now might just be a good time to join!
The choir says, “Bath’s celebrated male choir made the headlines when they reached the finals of the BBC One’s ‘Last Choir Standing’ a few years ago.
“Since that time the choir have, quite literally, travelled the world. They have performed at concerts across the UK and visited Europe, including an invitation to sing at the Menin Gate as part of the Remembrance Day Commemoration.
“A memorable trip to Japan in 2014 saw Bath Male Choir performing in front of 3,000 people at a major Male Voice Choir festival. They were the first choir from the UK to be invited to perform and received three standing ovations and a special award.
“Two years ago the choir travelled to Boston, USA, for another memorable 10 day tour, performances included concerts at a number of historic venues in and around Boston including a performance as part of the Sunday morning service at Boston’s historic Old North Church.
“The choir returned to singing post lockdown in August and rehearsals are back at Beechen Cliff Methodist Church in Bearflat, Bath, and Grenville Jones, the choir’s founder, has announced that plans are now starting to be put in place to visit Nashville, USA, in October of next year, 2022.”
Grenville said, “New potential members are always welcome at our Tuesday evening rehearsals and we are already starting to fill our concert diary for next year. The trip to Nashville will of course be a highlight and, as with other tours, is bound to be a very special few days for our choir.”
One post lockdown change for Bath Male Choir is that Grenville’s youngest son Laurie is now sharing conductor duties. He studied music at Bath Spa University, works extensively as a freelance and is head of music at a Bristol Secondary School. He is also the conductor of the Malmesbury Community Choir.
Grenville and Laurie look forward to meeting prospective new members on a Tuesday evening at Beechen Cliff Methodist Church.
Grenville adds, “If you are wondering what it would be like singing in a men’s choir then come along on a Tuesday evening to meet us and find out for yourself, you won’t regret it.”
