Calling all tenants and landlords in Frome

THE local campaign group, Fair Housing for Frome, is this month turning its attention to the all-important topic of private rented accommodation in the town. 

The group says, “As Frome grows in popularity, rents are rising, properties are scarce, and many families and individuals are having to look elsewhere for a place to live – even if they were brought up here, work here, or play a big part in the community.

“For people who do find a property to rent, what can be done to promote a smooth-running and good-hearted relationship between landlord and tenant, and to support the development of a fair and equitable private rented sector?

“All landlords and prospective landlords are warmly invited to an informal discussion upstairs at the Three Swans,  on Monday 18th September, at 6.00pm. Topics will include; how to meet the needs of both landlord and tenant; how to access up-to-date information and support; and the possibility of setting up a Fair Landlords scheme in Frome.

“Also, on Monday 25th September, from 6 – 8pm, there will be a public meeting on the topic of ‘Tenants and Landlords’ at Frome Town Hall, where speakers with different perspectives from across the South West will lead a discussion about how to tackle the challenges facing both tenants and landlords in the town.

“Fair Housing for Frome is a group of volunteers funded by Frome Town Council to run a series of events during 2017 looking at the scale of the housing crisis in Frome and identifying opportunities to address it.

“In March 2018, there will be a public presentation of all the opportunities that have been identified, together with a discussion about how to take them forward.”
