FROME Ladies Club’s monthly meeting was held on Wednesday 28th March which saw speaker Donna, a member, tell the tales of her recent trek in Cambodia.
The club reports, “At the meeting of Frome Ladies Club held st Christchurch Hall, Frome on the 28th March, Christine Cornaby, Chairman introduced Donna who spoke to the members about her recent trek in Cambodia.
“Donna was accompanied on the trek by five other ladies aged from 49 to 71, arriving in Cambodia after a 12 hour flight where they travelled on by van, ox cart and tractor. They stayed mainly in temples which afforded little in the way of privacy and comfort and they often encountered scorpions, frogs, huntsman spiders and large amounts of ants. However, the trek was enjoyed by all and after six days, travelling 125 kilometres, Donna raised £3,100 for the MS Society Bath and District Group of which she is group coordinator. The group covers, Frome, Bath, Trowbridge, Melksham and Keynsham, has 172 members of which 110 have MS, and are greatly helped by the money raised by the group.
“The members of Frome Ladies Club opted to adopt the group as their charity to support in 2018.
“Vote of Thanks was given by P. Nuth. Rona Wilkin was presented with a bouquet of flowers in appreciation of her hard work as Chairman in 2017. Tea hostesses were J.Brimson, A.Cross, R.Joyce and J.Langman. Raffle winners were V.Humphries, C. Dufton, E.Regler, P. Nuth, S.Smith and T.Reynolds.
“The next meeting will be on Wednesday 25th April when the speaker will be Peter Chaplin, an ex-Police dog handler.
“Anyone wishing to join the club should ring Christine Cornaby on 01373 300641 who will be pleased to give details.”
