Two new free events have been added to the growing calendar of activities at Frome Good Heart centre in Palmer Street.
‘Personal skills for peaceful communities’ is a four-part course, commencing Saturday 19th October and designed for anyone who wants to improve their interpersonal skills in responding to situations of conflict.
“It will cover a range of practical topics including, listening, dialogue; futures thinking and anger. It’s led by Simon Keyes, professor of reconciliation and peace – at the University of Winchester who lives in Frome. For more information and dates see www.thegoodheart.uk. To book a place contact simon@onion.org.uk.
From 22nd October, The Good Heart will offer a regular Tuesday morning session of ‘meditation for a kinder world’ in its newly-decorated quiet room.
“Would you like to start the day with some simple meditations designed to ground us in our natural kindness and spread more kindness in our daily lives? If yes, do join us, on either a regular or occasional basis,” says Alison Murdoch, one of the organisers.
Inspired by the teachings of the Buddha, these simple practices are suitable for everyone and will be led by members of Jamyang Buddhist Centre, Bath. Sessions run from 9 – 9.50am each week (up until 10th December) and are suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators.
The Good Heart is a non-profit initiative set up last year by Alison Murdoch and Simon Keyes, with the aim of exploring and promoting kindness.
By day, it offers a pay-it-forward vegan café, and in the evenings and weekends there is a growing programme of events designed to support the practice of kindness; to ourselves, to our family and friends, and to the wider world.
All events at The Good Heart are free of charge, although donations towards running costs are always welcome. If you’d like to keep up to date with what’s going on, please join the mailing list at www.thegoodheart.uk.
