FROME could saddle up for Somerset’s first Cycling on Prescription programme, as the council, doctors and NHS look to start the scheme.
Frome Medical Practice, Frome Town Council, Health Connections Mendip and cycling website, Love to Ride, will be holding a meeting next week to try and involve local people in taking the idea forward.
The meeting will be at Frome Medical Practice from 5pm to 6.30pm on Thursday 23rd March.
Frome Town Council has offered to provide the bikes, Love to Ride has an exciting interactive website to keep people motivated, informed and help them set goals, and Frome Medical Practice and Health Connections Mendip will let patients know about the scheme.
What is missing? You! The organisations need people to take the idea forward.
Frome resident Sam Robinson runs the UK Love to Ride programme, which encourages people to cycle as much as possible.
Sam says, “We love the idea of prescribing a bike for health, so we’re supporting this new community project with a tailored web platform; www.lovetoride.net/frome
“The website will host and monitor activity and share local information such as led rides and local cycling routes. Whether you ride to save money, to support your local environment, get fit or stay healthy – the benefits are broad and are there for the taking! Come along on Thursday 23rd March and help us get this great initiative off the ground.”
If you are not able to attend the meeting but would like to be involved, give Health Connections Mendip a call on 01373 468366 or email Cara Naden at Frome Town Council on nadenc@frometowncouncil.gov.uk
