Frome Canoe Club was presented with a Sportivate Award at the recent ceremony of the Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP).
The award recognises the impact that the club has on inspiring young people from Frome and the surrounding area to try canoeing and to develop their skills in the sport.
Rich Carter, head coach said, “Frome Canoe Club has enjoyed a high profile in the town centre for many years, and generations of paddlers have benefited from our highly skilled and well qualified coaches since the late 1970s.
“We are very proud that our home-grown coaches, many of whom are local young people themselves, have been recognised in this way.”
In line with the national agenda to encourage more young people to enjoy a healthy lifestyle, the club tailored its programme to include a series of activities to encourage and retain young people within the sport.
Pam Dixon, club secretary said, “The club is very proud of the opportunities that it offers to young people and adults alike. Our friendly atmosphere encourages families to get stuck in, and this introduces young people to voluntary work within their local community, which can have a profound impact on their lives and future aspirations.”
