Renowned Irish folk singer Cara Dillon and her partner, acclaimed musician and producer Sam Lakeman, will present a unique concert celebrating their adopted hometown as part of this year’s Frome Festival.
Having made Frome their home shortly after the festival was established by Martin Bax, the couple have become deeply connected to the town and its vibrant cultural community. In this special one-off performance at the Merlin Theatre, they will combine songs from across their award-winning catalogue with personal stories, memories and reflections on more than two decades of life in Frome.
Cara Dillon said, “It’s such a pleasure to be playing a show at this year’s festival. I absolutely love the atmosphere in the town when festival time comes around. Every venue is buzzing with music and events, and the streets are full of people heading to concerts, exhibitions and talks.
“Sam and I will be playing an intimate concert in the Merlin Theatre as a way of saying thank you to the festival. People know that I regularly perform at the Cheese and Grain, where I’m a patron, with my annual Christmas show, but I’m thrilled to be presenting this special concert looking back over some of my favourite songs from my career and sharing stories about our time here in Frome – recording, performing and raising our family.
“Expect some of my most popular songs alongside a few favourites that I rarely perform, almost all of which were recorded here in Frome over the last 24 years.”
Sam Lakeman added, “Cara and I have lived in Frome for more than 24 years and we’ve loved watching the town grow and evolve, particularly with the recent influx of talented musicians and artists. Frome Festival has always offered a wonderfully eclectic programme and this year is no exception.”
The concert forms part of Frome Festival’s 25th anniversary, offering audiences an opportunity to experience the music and stories of two of folk music’s most respected artists in a local setting.
‘Cara Dillon & Sam Lakeman – A Frome Festival Special’ takes place on Saturday 11th July at the Merlin Theatre. Tickets are available from the Frome Festival website www.fromefestival.co.uk and from the Merlin Theatre and Cheese and Grain box offices.
