The Frome Carnival Family Fun Day is back next month, featuring the return of the ever-popular dog show, the Bonniest Baby competition, and a variety of performances, games and stalls run by local charities.
The family fete will be held on Saturday 7th June at Victoria Park from 12pm to 5pm, organised by the Frome Street Carnival team, a charity raising funds for local causes.
One of the organisers, Mandy Morgan, said, “We will have lots of entertainment, including fairground rides, plus displays from the Frome Army Cadets Marching Band, Frome Show Choir and the Frome Cheerleading Squad. We have food vendors and a bar, plus our very own Thomas the Tank Engine train rides.”
Carnival Royalty Selection
The event will also include the selection of the Frome Carnival Royalty, who take pride of place in the carnival processions in September.
Categories for carnival royalty include Carnival Babies, with age groups from 0 to 9 months and 10 to 18 months. The Carnival Prince and Princess category is for children aged 8 to 12, while the Carnival Ambassador category is open to those aged 13 to 18, and those aged 18 and over.
“We have decided this year not to have a grandparent category, mainly due to a lack of entries over the past few years,” explained Mandy.
Dog Show
The Dog Show is a staple of the day, with owners showcasing their dogs in front of judges in a range of categories. These include best rescue, best cross breed, best pedigree, best junior handler (under 13), best puppy (aged 3 to 12 months), dog the judge would most like to take home, prettiest dog, and most appealing eyes.
Registration for the Carnival Royalty and Dog Show will open at 12 noon, when the fete begins.
Bonniest Baby
The fun day will also see the return of the much-loved Bonniest Baby competition. Babies will be selected in the categories of up to 9 months, and 9 to 18 months.
Currently, over 25 stalls have been booked for the event; however, Mandy says there is room for more.
“Stallholder booking forms are available to download from our website,” she said. “Alternatively, please email info@fromecarnival.org.uk.”
“This is a free family event and we are delighted to be hosting it for you once again this year. Please spread the word with friends and family and come along and join us.”
This year’s carnival is due to be held on Saturday 20th September. For more information, visit www.fromecarnival.org.uk or go to the Frome Carnival Facebook page.
