LOCAL pet owner, Niketa Davidson, was in shock when she found her cat, Rosie, with a ball bearing impaled in her eye socket after a vicious attack.
At first, Niketa thought that her cat, Rosie, had sustained injuries from a car accident. But on visiting a local vets, Rosie had to have emergency surgery to remove a ball bearing that had impaled her left eye, causing the eye to be removed.
Rosie is now recovering at home, but Niketa said, “We are not sure if she has brain damage or not. She is dazed and keeps walking into things.
“It is such a shame that this incident has forced her to become an indoor cat, which is not in her nature, she is usually an outdoor cat.
“She didn’t have the greatest start in life. She is only two years old and has already gone through so much. She went missing when she was young and completely lost the mobility to walk. I have spent the time increasing her confidence, finally learning to walk again only recently.
“Speaking to the vet, they said that the attack must have been intentional as they would have had to capture and hold down Rosie to get the perfect shot.
“Something legal needs to be done about this. What’s it going to be next? A human? It’s disgusting!”
The incident was reported to the police, but unfortunately there have been no witnesses to the attack and other incidents of harming animals in the area have been reported.
Niketa says she is grateful for the support she has received on her gofundme page and also local volunteers from the Cats Protection charity, who donated £100 directly to the vets to cover bills. The veterinary practice has also agreed a payment plan for Niketa, allowing her to pay off the bill over a period of time, (which is not usually available).
A spokesperson for the RSPCA said, “We are really keen to try and find out who is responsible for such a heartless attack and urge anyone who has any information about who did this to contact us, in complete confidence, on 0300 123 8018”
