CHRIST Church, on Christchurch Street West, will be hosting special events as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations.
This Saturday, 29th September, the church welcomes Nick Edwards for a candlelit organ recital from 8pm-9pm.
Music will include light classics including Handel’s ‘The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba’, ‘The Cuckoo and the Nightingale’, and works by Bach, Fauré, Karl Jenkins and more. Entry costs £5 on the door. Wine and soft drinks will be available. Doors open at 7.30pm.
Next month on Saturday 6th October at 7.30pm and on Sunday 7th October at 3pm, there will be two concerts commemorating the composer Charles Hubert Hastings Parry (who died on 7th October 1918). Frome Voices, conducted by Alan Burgess, will sing ‘Blest pair of sirens’, ‘I was glad’, ‘My soul, there is a country’, and much loved hymns by Parry (for which the audience will be invited to join in), interspersed by some of Parry’s best organ music played by Christopher Cipkin.
