THE Frome Town Band has been back in full swing this year with a string of gigs in and around the town during the four weeks before Christmas, with the highlight set to be their annual concert on Saturday 18th December.
Between the switching on of the town lights last month and a busking set in Frome on Christmas Eve, the band will have played 10 gigs.
Kirstie Jones, who plays the cornet and is chair of the band’s committee, says, “It’s so good to be back out playing again, particularly after last year when it was very difficult to do anything.
“We’re an inclusive band, welcoming all ages and abilities. New starters don’t even have to play an instrument – we can provide that.”
The band, which rehearses every Wednesday at Frome College, reached a whole new audience at the town’s light switch on a couple of weeks ago.
They provided the musical backdrop for a live broadcast by ITV West Country, with their rendition of Deck the Halls reaching tens of thousands of homes across the region.
The biggest annual event for the band is their concert on Saturday 18th December at Wesley Methodist Church. The curtain goes up at 7pm and tickets cost £6.
Kirstie added, “We’re looking forward to a great night with lots of music to tap your feet to, and some festive tunes to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. It should be a lot of fun.”

The band will also be busking around Frome during the week before Christmas.
