Frome man, Keith Broughton, has received the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Industry Award’ at a special Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) South West ceremony for a lifetime of achievement on high profile construction projects, including the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Crossrail.
Keith has recently retired as major projects director at Hochtief (UK) Construction. He joined Hochtief in 1990, having already worked for John Laing & Son and Costain on many significant schemes, including two sections of the M25. Keith was appointed technical services director in 2003, where he was involved in the bidding and support for many projects, including A23 Coulsdon town centre improvement and the Reading Station reconstruction.
He was also prominent in promoting early contractor involvement in major projects, which delivered significant benefits for clients such as Network Rail on the highly complex Paddington Bridge replacement. In addition, many joint venture boards benefited from Keith’s considerable technical knowledge by ensuring that risks were identified early so that mitigating measures could be put in place.
Keith was thrilled to receive recognition and commented, “This is a great industry and I would urge any young person considering their career options to take a close look at civil engineering. Every day is different and there will be challenges to overcome, but along with the people you will meet and the financial rewards, you will also leave a footprint for the future with every project you complete.”
