FROME residents have one last chance to comment on plans for a new ‘Selwood Garden Community’ – consisting of up to 1,500 homes to the south of Frome – before a planning application is made.
Formerly known as the ‘Selwood Garden Village’, plans for the first phase of the development, as shared by the developers in December 2019, could include around 1,500 new homes, employment land and a local centre which will include social infrastructure and a local community hub.
Since the consultation in December 2019, plans for the ‘Selwood Garden Community’ have progressed, and the updated plans will be made available for comment from next week as part of an online consultation. The consultation will be open from Friday 25th September until Friday 16th October, and the team behind the proposal say that this will be the last opportunity to review the proposals before they submit a planning application, which is being targeted for late autumn 2020.
A spokesperson for lead consultant for the project, Grass Roots Planning, said, “Following the last “initial vision” consultation event held in December 2019 for the strategic scale and well-connected new community to the south of Frome, we have reviewed the proposals in light of the comments received and undertaken more detailed technical work.
“The emerging plans have progressed considerably since then and we would now like to share the updated plans with you and ask for your views on these plans.”
A proposal for the ‘Selwood Garden Village’ was originally submitted as a proposed modification to Mendip District Council’s Local Plan Part 2 in 2018 – it proposed 2,000 homes over 161 hectares on land south of Frome, including The Mount and Little Keyford areas.
The proposal was labelled as ‘premature’ by the district council in early 2019 and was not accepted as part of their housing plans for Frome.
The online consultation for the newly-named ‘Selwood Garden Community’ will be available from Friday 25th September, and feedback can be provided directly through the website: www.selwoodgardencommunity.com
A printed version of the consultation can be viewed by appointment at Rook Lane Chapel, Bath Street, Frome for the duration of the consultation period. To arrange an appointment, please telephone 0117 930 0413 or email enquiries@ grassroots-planning.co.uk
