FROME RFC’s new captains for the senior teams for the upcoming 2023/2024 season are Geoff Taylor, Phil Clarke and Bryan Loftus.
The three men will be leading the line for the senior teams in the new season that will also mark the 140th anniversary of the club.
Speaking on the new appointments, Frome RFC’s director of rugby Garrie Webster said, “I am very happy to announce Geoff Taylor as the new club captain; he sets the standard and example with his efforts on match day and in his training ethic.
“A previous Player of the Year and Trainer of the Year winner I am sure Geoff will continue to grow and will prove to be a great leader of the players as we look to build and attack the league next season.
“The 2nd XV will be in good hands with Phil Clarke being elected as captain who has been at the club for a number of years and has been a regular face in the 1st XV also. Bryan Loftus brings fresh enthusiasm to the 3rd XV and looks to build on the great work that Alistair Fisher and Simon Bates have been doing.
“I’m excited about future at the club with our young players coming through, a very large number within the academy set up and a keen and experienced coaching team. I want to also wish the outgoing captains, Alex Mallon, Ethan White and Alistair Fisher all the best, and thank you for your efforts and I look forward to seeing you play next season.”
Club captain Geoff Taylor added, “It is a great honour to be named as the club and 1st XV captain, it has always been an ambition of mine to be in this position, and one I can’t wait to get stuck into. I look forward to working with director of rugby, Garrie Webster, the coaching team in Dom Jones and JJ Gagiano, the backroom staff and of course all of the players across each of our squads.
“With this great group of people, the club has the potential to perform well in all our new respective leagues. The club has talented youth pushing through the ranks and looks to see many familiar faces return for the season ahead. Frome is a special club where everyone and anyone is welcome to come along and join our family across all ages and levels of rugby within the club.”
