JULIAN House, which has a charity shop in Frome, has been named the main beneficiary for this year’s Elizabethan Evening, which will be held in the gardens of the historical Manor Farm in Corsley.
Each year, The Elizabethan Evening has one main charity, along with other local ones, and this year they have chosen Julian House.
The Julian House charity first started as a night shelter for homeless people in Bath in 1989 and has evolved since then. The main aim now of the Bath-based charity is to offer direct support to the homeless. They currently operate more than 20 different projects, accommodation sites and social enterprises across the south west.
These include; a range of homeless services; support for those suffering domestic violence; addiction recovery; criminal justice services; and work experience and training.
Angie Smith, manager of Julian House charity shop in Frome said, “Julian House relies heavily on volunteers, donations and money that the charity shops and bike workshops take. We are very grateful for what we are given, but always need more. It seems to be much harder now than it used to be.
“We have amazing volunteers and more are always welcome. It’s such a fantastic way of making friends in the local community and broadening your skills.”
This year’s Elizabethan Evening will be a performance by award-winning outdoor theatre company Illyria, of The Hound of the Baskervilles, on Saturday 4th August at 7.30pm.
Organiser John Hellier said, “We are really looking forward to having Illyria again this year, they always put on a great performance and from what I have heard, we won’t be disappointed!”
