Young people in Frome have celebrated diversity and inclusion through a handcrafted flag project now on display in the library.
The initiative brought together pupils from local schools and community groups, with each contributing handmade flags reflecting their heritage, identity and personal stories. Using a range of reclaimed materials, colours and symbols, the children created bunting representing countries, cultures and shared values from around the world.
The flag-making took place across three workshops, the first at the Multicultural Festival in October last year and two further sessions at Frome Library, where the display is now in the children’s section.
One of the project coordinators, Angelique Mulholland, said, “This bunting is more than decoration, it’s a powerful visual representation of how our differences can come together to create something beautiful.”

After being designed and made, the flags were sewn together by community volunteers with a passion for sewing and craft.
Parents and community members are invited to view the installation. Organisers hope it will inspire similar projects and continue to foster dialogue and understanding across cultures.
The next Multicultural Festival will take place on Sunday 11th October at the Cheese and Grain. For more information, contact azeemacaffoor@young peoplefrome.onmicrosoft.com
