BBC Children in Need 2011 raised £26,332,334 on the appeal night, and in the following months money raised from fundraisers, schools and businesses around the UK continued to pour in and over £46 million was awarded to projects supporting children and young people.
A Children in Need radio broadcast was first held back in 1927, which was followed by televised Christmas appeals which started in 1955. The first annual BBC telethon was held in 1980 and since then, millions of pounds have been raised for the children’s charity to help change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
