CHRIST Church Frome, needs to raise £450,000 to repair the church’s leaking roof and the parish is asking for fundraising ideas.
Patsy Stephenson of the church said, “We have a problem with our roof, like so many other churches and buildings of its age, in that it’s not exactly what you’d call water-tight!
“Unfortunately, this is throughout the church from the corner above the font to the corner above the Good Samaritan window, to above the centre aisle and through the servers’ vestry. Our church’s architects have also been reporting in the quinquennial inspections for some time now that the rainwater goods are also in need of a good overhaul.
“With these issues in mind, it is estimated that in the region of £450,000 will have to be raised, so the success of applications for grants is crucial.
“The church and its members will be looked at to see that we are doing everything we can to bring as many people into the building as possible, not just for services, but for a variety of other purposes.
“On Saturday 12th January at 10am we will be holding a brainstorming morning at St Mary’s Church hall to look at new, interesting and hopefully innovative ideas in which the church can become a loudly beating heart in Frome. Everyone is welcome to attend, assistance can be given with transport if that’s a problem and I’m sure there will be refreshments!
“So keep a notepad and pen with you at all times. If you wake in the middle of the night, are out walking your dog, cooking your lunch, ironing etc etc, let your mind wander and your imagination come to the fore. Record your ideas and bring them to the meeting and let’s look forward to a happy, growthful and productive New Year.”
