FROME College has praised the hard work and dedication of its students and staff following the publication of the secondary school league tables.
According to the tables, the college’s GCSE students performed better when compared to other schools in England, and its A-level students achieved a ranking of ‘average progress’.
About the college’s GCSE performance, principal Emma Reynolds told Frome Times, “This month saw the publication of the secondary school league table for the overall performance of pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 in 2019.
“As a college, we are delighted with the achievements of all our students and the progress they have made.
“The league table has confirmed Frome College students achieved a ‘Progress 8’ score of 0.06, compared with schools both in the local area and nationally, scoring -0.03.
“40.3% of students achieved a grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSE, compared to 39.2% for Somerset, and 39.8% for all schools in England.
“Our overall attainment is much higher than Somerset and for all schools in England; testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, students and families.
“The Attainment 8 score for Frome College was 46.4, compared to 44.8 for Somerset, and 44.5 for all schools in England.”
About the college’s A-level performance, head of sixth form, Dr J Sadowski said, “As a sixth form we have made real progress in improving outcomes for our most able students, with record numbers achieving the highest grades of AAB and above at A-level.
“I am particularly proud of our results in physics, where inspiring and dedicated teaching ensured that student outcomes were significantly above national average. We balance our success in A-level subjects by continuing to be a centre of excellence for applied and Technical qualifications.”
