Local teenager Chloe Massey from Frome Community College has been crowned one of 10 winners of the ‘Who Are You?’ international design competition run by the Arts University College at Bournemouth (AUCB) and JCDecaux, beating entrants from all over the UK, Europe and even America. The creative competition was aimed at aspiring artists and designers between 16-18 years old. Entrants were asked to create a piece of artwork that best describes who they are in the world today, which was then judged by a panel of industry professionals including the set designer Rhea Thierstein, who was the art director for Jessie J’s ‘Price Tag’ video; and Gavin Lucas, a senior writer for industry bible Creative Review magazine. The panel of judges selected 25 images which then went through to a public vote on Facebook, with 10 winners chosen by the public to have their work supersized on 50 billboards across the country.Chloe was one of 10 winners who received the most votes on the AUCB’s Facebook page. Chloe said, “I‘m so glad to have won this competition, the brief allowed me to submit a piece that is contemporary and original. It’s a great chance for people around the country to get a glimpse of some of my work and I’m really excited to see it magnified on billboards!”The winning designs can be found on the AUCB’s Facebook page www.facebook. com/theAUCB by clicking on the Who Are You? tab. The competition was created by Simon Pride, head of marketing and communications at the AUCB – a specialist arts university – who wanted to give young people the opportunity to express themselves in such a unique way. Simon commented, “We believe that this competition demonstrates our commitment to giving young designers and artists the very biggest platform for their future development we can. And you can’t get much bigger than a 48 sheet billboard!”The artwork will be going up on billboards around the country from 16th April for two weeks and will also form an exhibition in TheGallery at the AUCB on the 25th April. Images of the billboards and TheGallery exhibition will be uploaded to the AUCB’s Facebook page from the 16th April onwards.
