SUMMER’S here and a memorable line-up of events has been put together in Frome to keep the whole family entertained over the coming weeks and months.
It promises to be a summer to remember with a wide range of exciting events coming up including the Frome Festival – with over 200 events planned – the Cheese Show, the monthly Independent markets, Frome Lions Fete, the Carnival Fun Day and a whole lot more. The Cheese and Grain and the Memorial and Merlin Theatres also have exciting programmes planned.
Kicking off the proceedings is Marty Wilde & The Wildcats at the Memorial this Friday, 5th June. Also coming up at the Memorial is One Night of Elvis, an evening with radio and TV personality Gervase Phinn, Jethro and Spellbound’s ‘Peter Pan’.
This Saturday, 6th June, sees Frome Carnival Fun Day at Victoria Park. The fundraiser for Frome Carnival will run from 11am to 4pm in the park and include the annual baby show, a dog show, barbecue, and family fun and games.
Frome Independent Market will bring the town to life again on Sunday 7th June and every first Sunday of the month. This month’s theme is ‘Dig, sow, grow, repeat!’ The hugely popular market will be taking a green-fingered approach for June, with a number of gardening traders, nature displays, and outdoor activities for all the family. The market runs this Sunday from 10am – 3pm in Frome town centre.
The following weekend, visit the Frome Lions’ Fete for a roaring good time! The fete will run from 12.30pm to 4pm in Victoria Park on Saturday 13th June. Entertainment will include train rides, Frome Town Youth Band, a Punch and Judy show, Charisma Twirlers, and a dog training display. A huge range of children’s activities will be on offer and all money raised goes to local causes via the Lions Club.
The behemoth of the summer events will then be Frome Festival, bringing world-class entertainment to the town from 3rd to 12th July. Tickets have already started selling out for the jam-packed programme, which includes huge acts such as The Hoosiers, Romesh Ranganathan, Mr Scruff and the Sugarhill Gang.
There will be something for everyone with the food feast and children’s festival incorporated, as well as over 200 events in 36 venues across Frome. Ranging from poetry, talks and comedy to puppet shows, walks, and workshops – there will be something to suit any taste. For more information, visit www.fromefestival.co.uk.
At the Merlin, their line-up covers everything from a Dick Tracy comedy (this Saturday) to Shakespeare with West Side Story from the theatre’s own students thrown in for good measure.
The summer will come to a close with Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show on Saturday 12th September. This year’s show looks forward to repeating last year’s record of over 20,000 visitors, more than 350 trade stands and in excess of 4,600 class entries into the various competitions. The show’s friendly, family atmosphere aims to create a fun day out with much to see, do and learn.
