FROME Community Cars had a boost in numbers recently after a publicity event at the health centre.
Over 12 people signed up for the service and a further three registered their interest in becoming drivers.
The organisation’s Richard Fry said, “Frome Community Cars is one of the newest voluntary services aiming to help people in Frome. Its main aim is to transport, at a very low cost, those who are unable to drive to local appointments, medical as well as social.
“On Friday 3rd February we set up an information stand at Frome Community Health Centre in a bid to publicise the service.
“The event was very successful, with over a dozen people signing up on the day and many more took away forms. A reminder to those who took registration forms; please don’t forget to return it to the council office. It’s free and once registered, you will be able to use the service.
“Three people who are considering joining as drivers also registered. The commitment is only as much or as little as each person wants to commit to. The reimbursement to the drivers of 45 pence per mile pays for running costs, but the rewards of helping others are immense.
“It’s not too late to register as a passenger or a driver. To find out more about this new and potentially very useful service to the area please call 07596 591391 or email fromecommunitycars@gmail.com
