THE popular Frome-on-Sea and pop-up Village Green events at The Frome Independent have been given a new lease of life after a successful crowdfunding campaign.
Last month, The Frome Independent launched a crowdfunding campaign to be able to keep the much-loved market a free social event for local people and visitors.
In just one month over £10,000 was raised and with additional funding from Frome Town Council, the market can replace the fake grass at the Village Green which takes place outside the Frome Library on market days and has become a meeting place for families and friends.
The money will also allow the market to provide the free music, events and activities for another year, which includes the famous urban beach, Frome -on-Sea. The beach is free, complete with real sand, buckets and spades, donkey rides and deckchairs. The money will help to provide a greater range of seasonal events at markets that coincide with Christmas, harvest-time and Easter too.
Market director, Tabitha Clayson said, “We are thrilled to have galvanised such wonderful community support for our Crowdfunder appeal. The generous donations we received, along with match-funding from Frome Town Council, mean that we can push ahead with creating Frome on Sea at our August market. In addition we can makeover our Village Green area for family events all year round and continue to support local charities and community groups.
“As a not-for-profit social enterprise the success of this appeal was vital so a huge thank you to the folk of Frome, local shops and businesses and our traders for their fantastic support.”
