Contribute to Frome’s Nature Recovery Plan

Residents are being invited to share their views on a draft Nature Recovery Plan for Frome, which aims to protect and promote wildlife and biodiversity across the town.

The draft plan, published by Frome Town Council, sets out objectives to protect, promote and restore nature, while helping tackle the effects of climate change including heatwaves, fires, flooding and food and economic insecurity.

The plan is now available on the My Frome platform, with residents able to comment and participate until 16th August. The final plan will launch in October 2026 and set out the council’s strategy for nature recovery in Frome.

It draws on evidence from Frome’s Climate Adaptation Plan, developed through the Act to Adapt programme, alongside insights from Somerset Wildlife Trust’s May 2025 workshops with residents and local stakeholders.

Cllr Sara Butler, lead councillor for the climate and ecological emergency, said, “The UK is one of the most nature-depleted places on Earth and we need urgent, sustained action to protect nature – and by extension, to protect ourselves.

“As of 2024, Frome Town Council owns 34 hectares of green space – that’s the same as 50 football pitches, in one small town. That means we’re well placed to make a genuine difference, because in addition to all that green space, we’re surrounded by woodland and we have a river corridor.

“The draft plan is designed to inform, inspire and bring even more people on board so we can work together, as well as setting clear targets for FTC to meet. Please go to My Frome, read it and share your thoughts with us by 16th August.”
