BECKINGTON Cricket Club recently donated £14,000 to the RUH’s Forever Friends Appeal, after raising £18,000 at a masquerade ball fundraiser in October.
The club donated the money via Warminster and District RUH Fundraising Group (WAD), which is raising money towards the new cancer centre planned for the Bath hospital.
The Beckington Masquerade Ball was arranged by Chris Weare, Daniel Gulliford and Ang Allen and was attended by 330 guests.
Community fundraiser for the Forever Friends Appeal, Lydia McGivern said, “We are completely overwhelmed by the unbelievable support that Chris, Dan, Ang and all at Beckington Cricket Club have given to our Warminster Community Group and our RUH Cancer Care Campaign.
“WAD is a group of inspirational volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the past three years to raise funds towards a cause very close to all of their hearts.
“For Beckington Cricket Club to have worked so hard to help them with this challenge is beyond generous. We truly cannot express how grateful we are for their kindness.”
The event has been called an ‘overwhelming success’ and saw a star-studded bill of entertainment with live music from The Voice’s Tom Carpenter and award-winning international act, The Three Waiters. The three singers surprised their audience by bursting into song disguised amongst genuine serving staff. Dinner was then followed by an auction of promises.
Organiser Chris Weare said, “We would like to say a huge thank you to Thornbury Sports Ltd who were the primary sponsor for this event. Without their help the ball simply could not have taken place and we would not have been able to help such a worthwhile local cause.”
The RUH Cancer Care Campaign, to which the funds have been donated, is raising money towards the build of a pioneering new cancer centre at the hospital. The development will allow state-of-the-art cancer treatment to be provided to thousands of local patients and their families.
