CRITCHILL School has received a brand new minibus from The Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity.
Representatives of The Lord’s Taverners were in Frome to present staff and pupils at Critchill School with the new wheelchair-accessible minibus.
The 16-seat minibus will be used to facilitate a wide range of learning opportunities for the school’s pupils including weekly horse riding, swimming and work-related learning opportunities that are available away from the school site. The minibus will also help the school take pupils to county sporting events.
Headteacher Mark Armstrong said, “We have very high aspirations and expectations for our pupils at Critchill School.
“We give them as many opportunities as possible so that now and into the future, they will be able to make a contribution to local community and to society as a whole.
“The minibus will be part of enabling our pupils to achieve this. We thank The Lord’s Taverners and People’s Postcode Lottery for their support of the school’s vision.”
The minibus was made possible thanks to the support of players of the People’s Postcode Lottery (PPL). Players of PPL play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for charities and good causes across the UK and internationally, and their support of The Lord’s Taverners has helped provide the new minibus for Critchill School.
Chief executive of the Lord’s Taverners, Paul Robin said, “The Lord’s Taverners believes that sport and recreation are essential for all young people, regardless of ability or background.
“This minibus will help Critchill School’s pupils to get out and enjoy new places and experiences in Frome. We are proud to support the staff, parents and young people of Critchill School and thank PPL for their continued support.”
Generous donations were also received from The David Solomons Charitable Trust and The ACT Foundation towards the school’s contribution for the minibus.
Critchill School provides a calm and aspirational learning environment for 50 pupils aged four to 19. The school educates pupils who have complex and multiple learning difficulties.
Since 1976, the Lord’s Taverners has placed over 1,150 accessible minibuses across schools in the UK. The scheme is just one of many initiatives The Lord’s Taverners offers. To find out more about the charity, go to www.lordstaverners.org
