Frome 1st XI beat Biddestone 1st XI by 119 runs Frome 1st XI: 269-6 (40 overs); Biddestone 1st XI: 150 all out (29.2 overs)
FROME 1st XI started their 2021 preparations off with a superb 119 run victory over Biddestone, thanks to a man of the match performance from vice captain Reece Croker.
On a warm April day, when the world paid their respects to Prince Philip, Frome won the toss and elected to bat with openers Paul Sanger and Sam Croker, who got the side off to a solid start with a partnership of 25 inside the first 5 overs.
Frome really kicked on when debutant Will Jenkins (47) was joined by Reece Croker at the crease, together they took the attack to the Biddestone bowlers with a partnership of 126 for the third wicket. Croker brought up a magnificent hundred including taking one over for 37 runs, his innings included 11 sixes. Frome finished their innings with a total of 269-6 from their 40 overs with Jacques the pick of the bowlers for the visitors with figures of 3-27.
In reply, Biddestone got off to a poor start with opening bowlers Reece Croker (2-19) and Tom Barton (2-16) leaving the visitors 7-3. Graham Wagg (34) and Horn (32) looked to rebuild and apply pressure to Frome with boundaries and excellent running. However, debutant Will Jenkins removed both in the space of three balls leaving them 90-5 and a real uphill battle.
Harman and Watts both picked up two wickets apiece with Biddestone eventually bowled out for 150.
Frome will be very happy with their first outing of the season and will hope they can build on this win as they look to compete in Premier 2.
