A weekly Baby Cafe, run by Frome and District NCT will be up and running from September. The funding target of £4,500 was reached with the help of Frome Town Council, who matched the funding raised by the NCT as part of the Crowdfund Frome campaign.
Other fundraising activities included a cake sale outside Frome Library on 4th April, which raised £210, and the branch plans to continue fundraising to ensure the group’s long-term future.
Charlotte Pidgeon, branch coordinator for Frome NCT and organiser of the NCT’s crowdfunding bid said, “We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the people who supported us – we’ve actually exceeded our total, which is amazing – we now know we can run the group for a year and already have some of the funding we need to keep it going after that.
“The Baby Café will be a drop-in support group for parents, providing free tea and cake and a welcoming ‘safe space’, as well as expert professional advice and support. There will be health visitors at the group, as well as a trained NCT breastfeeding counsellor.
“There will also be mother-to-mother support from a group of local mums who have received training from Somerset Partnership Trust. They’ll provide a sympathetic and non-judgemental ear, support and encouragement and can signpost families to professional services if needed.
“Of course, the parents who attend the group will also support one another, make friends and spread the word and maybe help to run it in the future!”
The Baby Café will start in September at the Rye café – details to be confirmed later in the year, please check the Frome NCT Chat page on Facebook.
