CTC Frome, part of Cycling UK, celebrated its 40th AGM at the Horse and Groom, East Woodlands, on Friday 10th November with a record attendance of 26 members.
The current chairperson, Richard Hounsell, has stepped down after 20 years and the new club chairperson is Perry Milkins.
The club Sunday rides have continued throughout the year, with visits to such places as Monkton Deverill, Dunkerton, Emborough, Midsomer Norton, Bruton, Mere, Steeple Ashton, The Deverills, Clapton, Limpley Stoke and Stourhead, as well as our Christmas Day ride to Heaven’s Gate. Avoncliff appeared for our 40th anniversary ride, followed by rides to Sutton Veny, Maesbury, Gillingham, Mere Down, Worton, West Knoyle, Aarons Hill, Devizes and Blue Vein, with the important café stop at 11.00.
The highlight of the year was the tour of the French Alps for 19 members in June 2017, quoted by the chairman has the best cycling holiday.
Next year the club is planning the tour of the two rivers north to the river Severn and back via the Wye Valley.
The best ride for the UK was from Sherborne on a Sunday to Portland Bill with a café stop at the lighthouse overlooking the seafront. Some of the longer Sunday rides included Somerset levels with Glastonbury and Wells, Compton Abbas Airfield and the much-feared climb of Cheddar Gorge.
The club meets on a Sunday outside the Cheese & Grain at 9.00 for a 30-35 mile cycle ride. The rides often divide into two groups. New members are always welcome, for more information on the cycle runs check www. cyclinguk.org/local-groups/frome and facebook CTC frome.
