Local man Andy Fry and his team have completed a skydive from 15,000 feet, raising over £3,000 for Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Society in memory of Andy’s mum, who died in 2022.
Andy, along with his team – his sister Angela Lynch, and friends Mark O’Donovan, Roy Phelps, Dave Mitchell, Shaun Davidson, Mike Kelloway, Cormac Hanley, Colin Heath and Simon Kennedy completed the skydive on 29th June at Old Sarum in Salisbury.
“It was a bit scary getting out of the plane, but once you’re out it’s great,” said Andy “It feels like you’re falling forever. They said the drop lasts about 60 seconds but I think it felt longer.”
“About 150 other people were doing the jump that day. Eight people jumped out of plane at a time and there was a bit of banter going on between everybody.”
Andy had set a target of £1,000 for his donation page but combined with his sister’s page and gift donations, they have more than doubled their original goal, raising about £3,500 so far.
“Everybody was all smiles and the weather was fantastic, it was the best day to take it on,” explained Andy. “There were a few people who said now they’ve done it they’ll never do it again!”
He added, “I’m definitely going to do another one in the next couple of months. Some of us might do a course on it.”
