FROGS will mark the tenth anniversary of the Welshmill Pumptrack and the refurbishment of the playpark, on Sunday 11 September, at the start of Frome’s Bike Week on Cycle Sunday.
The pumptrack has been used by hundreds of Frome kids of all ages, some pelting around at top speed without pedalling – the original intention of a pumptrack – others more sedately, and many using scooters or just running or toddling.
“It’s given many people hours of fun, and we hope it will continue to do so for years ahead,” said Frogs (Frome Recreation and Open Grounds Supporters) who played a large part in fundraising for the track, making grant applications to the National Lottery, and helping to choose the design and layout.
“Now everyone’s invited to a day of celebration – all things bike-related plus more!
“From 12 noon to 3pm on Sunday 11 September at Welshmill there will be amazing BMX demonstrations by Fusion Extreme, interspersed with have-a-go sessions, on the tarmac by the graffiti wall.
“There’ll also be Bling Your Bike and other bike-related fun. In addition, Somerset Wildlife Trust and local wildlife experts will be on hand with displays and information on the wildlife at Welshmill and the river.
“Down by the Cheese and Grain, there will be bike repair and maintenance with Doctor Bike, along with cargo bikes and bike jumble, and for littler cyclists, we will have a toddlers’ obstacle course – ideal for 7s and under with their own balance-bike or scooter. (Please bring your adult with you.)
“Bring your bike, balance-bike or scooter to join in the fun, or if you’ve a problem for Doctor Bike to sort out.
“Many thanks to Frome Town Council and the People’s Budget for supporting this event. We are continuing to add attractions, so watch this space.
“It’s free entry on the day and everyone’s welcome!”
