A Frome church recently held a talk titled ‘Hauntings, Holiness and Hopefulness,’ in response to the ‘Uncanny’ television series by Danny Robins.
This was the first of a series of talks hosted by Christ Church.
“Father Kevin Tingay argued during the talk that much of what is presented on television is a sensationalised response to a fear of death and a reluctance to incorporate the paranormal into our lives,” said one of the organisers Olivia Date.
“In a wide-ranging, erudite and entertaining talk, Father Kevin urged those who have experienced unusual, uncanny phenomena to find someone they trust and talk about it.
“He said these encounters can be reassuring and comforting. Similarly, talking about death – whether on a ‘grief journey’ (such as those run at Christ Church) or with some other trusted person – can help make it less fearful, folding death into life. A holy life is a whole life, one in which everything, both seen and unseen, has value.”
The next talk in the series will take place on Saturday 26th July at 11am, titled Making an Exit, by Sarah Murray, a journalist who divides her time between Frome and New York.
