A NEW team has been forged at the Archangel on King Street and they’re hoping to wow Frome with a fresh approach.
Ross Nicol has recently taken charge of the 900 year-old inn, and with the help of his wife Karen, is looking forward to bringing a new energy to the pub and making it stand out in Frome again.
Ross explained, “We’re really hoping to restore Frome’s faith in The Archangel. I don’t feel that the place was on the right track before; we’re going to try and move away from just being a town centre bar.
“The pub was renowned for good food when it first opened, and we want to take it back to that and give the building the reputation it deserves as a piece of Frome’s history.”
The Archangel was first recorded as an inn in 1311, and went under the name The Angel Inn from Medieval times until it was renovated in 2008.
Ross continued, “We’ve put together a strong kitchen team including two double AA rosette chefs Dan Maudsley and Wojciech Nawalka. All our food is sourced responsibly and locally where possible – we want to enhance the Britishness of the menu. and are including locally- farmed Somerset pork and beef.
“It’s important that people know we’re not just a bar – we’re ready to wow the customers of Frome and put the Archangel back on the map!”
The Archangel now offers ten uniquely renovated lodging rooms, including five luxury rooms with roll top baths, as well as a single and four standard double rooms.
They will also be hosting a number of events to entertain the community in the coming months. A cocktail-making class will be held on Tuesday 7th July; there will be ‘Friday Evening Cocktails’ on the third Friday of each month, offering two-for-one deals from 5-7pm; and during Frome Festival in July there will be live music, comedy, and poetry in store for customers.
As the sun comes out, the inn will also be holding barbeques, live music, and al fresco drinks at their Sky Bar built from an airline jet engine.
The Archangel is already looking forward to Christmas, too, with plans in place for a very special menu and a truly traditional family Christmas theme throughout.
