Cheltenham RFC 35-17 Frome RFC
FROME RFC were on the road at the weekend when they headed to Cheltenham RFC, a side that sat one place below them in Regional 2 Severn.
The visiting side started well, but Cheltenham continued to threaten throughout the game; points from the boot of James Howard, added a penalty. Hooker Matt King followed up the scoring with a good phase of play from the Forwards, a well worked Lineout saw King sat at the back and the maul drive across the line for him to dot down, Howard adding the extras.
The home side would notch up points throughout the game, but Frome scored again when flanker Sam Bartlett gathered up a superb kick through for fly half Simon Westlake, Howard again adding the extras. The side will have plenty to work on throughout the week as they let Cheltenham further the score to win the game.
Assistant head coach, JJ Gagiano said, “Unfortunately we could not build on the great work and result of last week, there were patches of good play, but we did not take our chances. Credit to Cheltenham who played well and took their opportunities.”
Player of the Match was awarded to captain, Alex Mallon – pictured The results see Frome drop one position to 8th place. This weekend Frome welcome 3rd place Chippenham RFC to The Lane. The previous week, Frome RFC 1st XV welcomed local Wiltshire rivals, Trowbridge RFC to The Lane and came away with a 27-11 victory. Prior to kick off, the players and supporters paid tribute to former Frome RFC Club Member, Sara Love Charlton who sadly passed away during the week.
A first half try from hooker Matt King gave Frome an early lead but they trailed 5-8 at the break. In the second half, full back Bailey Rusz dived over for the try, Matt Smith scored under the posts and flanker Sam Bartlett added a third try. FT: Frome RFC 27 – 11 Trowbridge RFC.
