Members of a Frome dementia singing group met veteran singer Tony Christie recently when he performed at the Cheese and Grain.
Organisers of Songs for the Memory, Debby Webster and Janet Knowles, along with group members, met the singer during his visit to Frome last month as part of his Great Farewell tour.
“Tony Christie was magnificent; it was a masterclass thoroughly enjoyed by everyone from the group who also went,” said Debby.
The Cheese and Grain donated two tickets to the singing group, which supports people with dementia and memory loss and their carers. Debby and Janet then ran a silent auction with people bidding by email for the tickets.
“We raised £200 and the winner and guest had a fabulous night,” said Debby.
Tony Christie’s career spans more than six decades, with hits including ‘Is This the Way to Amarillo’, ‘Avenues and Alleyways’, ‘Walk Like a Panther’ and ‘I Did What I Did for Maria’.
He was diagnosed with dementia in 2023. He has recently said that his performances on stage have not been affected.
