Glastonbury novelist Maria McCann’s most recent book, ‘Ace, King, Knave’, is set in Bath and London in the 1760s. Maria’s detailed research is evident in her convincing portrayal of London low life and her mastery of eighteenth century slang, but it is some of her other discoveries that inspire the title of her talk for Frome Festival.
Viewers of television programmes like the BBC’s Victorian Bakers will be aware of the adulteration of foodstuffs that went on in earlier times, but prepare to squirm as Maria dishes the dirt on the Georgian era. Maria’s book will on sale following the talk.
The talk will take place on Sunday 16th July 1.00-2.15pm (Festival event 1607 tickets £6.)
