Frome Selwood Rotary Club raised over £1,500 at a recent charity evening, with funds being donated to a children’s charity and towards a new cancer unit for Frome.
A total of 83 Rotarians and their friends enjoyed a cuisine evening at Chapmanslade Village Hall, sampling foods from France, Greece, Mexico and Nigeria.
“With a starter, main course and pudding from each country, everyone ended up well fed,” said treasurer Geoff Cardnell.
From the proceeds of the evening, £200 was donated to Hope and Homes – a charity which works to get children out of orphanages and into family homes – and £1,000 was donated to the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group for the creation of a new Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment Centre at Frome Medical Centre.
A representative of the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group, David Lane, attended the evening and outlined the work funded by the support group.
David explained that the money would go towards completing the £64,000 Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment Centre at Frome Medical Centre and adding to the £7,000 already donated through the Rotary Shop.
The centre is due to open later in the year and will reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.
David recently received a cheque from club president Patrick Otoide.
