The busy maternity birthing unit at Frome Community Hospital has embarked on a unique fundraising campaign culminating in a ‘Duckling Pool Party’ in their birthing pool, on 25th August.
Jane Stevens, a midwife at the unit, and who is brains behind the scheme said, “It might seem ‘quackers’, but starting next week we are asking people to sponsor a duck for just £2 – numbered plastic ones we must add! On Duckling Pool Party Day we are going to float all the ducks in our birthing pool and fish a few lucky ducks out, with some fabulous prizes to be won, including family photographic sessions, spa days, family membership for a year at Brokerswood and numerous vouchers and prizes donated from local companies, supermarkets and restaurants. Other gifts have been donated by Elaines, 35mlPhotographic Studios, Holbrook House Hotel and Longleat. We will be launching the fundraising campaign on 9th June in the Westway Precinct.
“Of course there might be a slight delay on our celebrations if a mum-to-be decides that baby is going to arrive on the day, but it’s going to be a lot of fun and with a serious element as we continue to buy some special equipment and furniture for the benefit of our maternity patients and their families. We would ideally like to raise £1,000, so we are asking if the community could duck-in and join the fun by leaving their donations, with a name and telephone number, at the reception of the community hospital.”
The birthing unit at Frome Community Hospital is the most modern maternity unit in the area, providing comprehensive pre-natal, birthing and post natal care for the Frome, West Wiltshire and North Dorset areas.
