DINERS can eat out this month and enjoy a discounted meal, whilst supporting a local business, as part of the national ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme.
The government’s scheme, which began this week, allows diners who are eating in to get a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner) every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until the end of the month, 31st August.
All diners of any age in a group of any size can use the discount. No voucher is needed, and diners can use the offer as many times as they like throughout the month – simply turn up to a participating establishment and they will take care of the rest. Businesses will then claim a reimbursement from the government for the discount they’ve given you.
Frome Town Council has collated the restaurants in Frome that are participating, on their Discover Frome Page, www.discoverfrome.co.uk/attraction_category/food-drink/
A number of local cafes, pubs and restaurants are taking part in the scheme, and Frome Times caught up with some of them to find out what they thought about the scheme, and what diners can expect if they pay them a visit.
John Hume at The Cross Keys in Corsley, said, “Eat out with confidence! With this scheme you can support a local business – so many have worked extremely hard to put safety and the customer at the forefront of reopening.
“This scheme will allow our customers to choose from a varied offer over the three days, each week in August at very affordable prices.
“Get together with friends and family and celebrate those missed occasions from lockdown whilst having a great time enjoying the hospitality of the Cross Keys, Corsley with your loved ones. Don’t forget to book early, we are already filling up!”
Francise Tieman from The Artisan said, “It’s a fantastic scheme – and is especially great for families who want to go out and visit local pubs and restaurants; and also for those people on low incomes.
“The scheme is very much needed by the industry – the government have been very good to the pub industry in the current climate. We are offering our full menu at the Artisan, and we will also be running the scheme off our own bat and offering customers up to £10 off on the second and fourth Sundays of August.”
Kathryn Hayler from the Old Bath Arms said, “It’s a really good scheme and is proving really popular so far – we are taking quite a lot of bookings. It’s going to help a lot of businesses – it’s much needed by the industry.
“We currently run a ‘buy one get one half price’ offer on some products Monday to Thursday – and we will continue this offer, so with the ‘Eat Out’ scheme, customers are going to make even bigger savings. Another incentive for people to come and spend some money.”
The ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme can also be used at the same time as other offers and discounts. And there is no minimum spend. You cannot claim discount on alcoholic drinks or service charges.
