NINE electric vehicle (EV) charging points are to be installed across three car parks in Frome this spring/summer.

Badcox Car Park, Cattle Market Car Park, North Parade Car Park – which are all owned by Mendip District Council – will each have three new EV chargers.
In addition to the nine EV chargers in Frome, Mendip District Council, alongside partners EB Charging, will also install 34 EV chargers across the district in another 10 council-owned car parks.
The district council says, “The 22kW Alfen Twin chargers will provide much-needed battery top-ups to residents, commuters and visitors to the district.
“The 43 charge points will be located in Frome, Glastonbury, Street, Wells and Shepton Mallet. This will make electric charging more accessible to drivers, and enable the council to take important steps forward to meet its climate and ecological emergency objectives.
“Mendip secured 75% of the funding for the project from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), while the remaining investment is being funded and delivered by EV infrastructure specialists, EB Charging.”
Contracts and asset maintenance manager at Mendip District Council, Gavin Fear said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with OZEV and EB Charging to accommodate EV charging points in Mendip.
“This project will add to the ever-growing web of chargers in the district. It will help tackle the climate emergency, whilst making it more convenient for EV owners to charge their cars when parking in our city and towns.”
CEO of EB Charging, Alex Calnan added, “This is a major commitment to reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality across the region, and we’re really excited that Mendip District Council has chosen us as their partner.
“Installing 43 charging points in 13 car parks will make driving an EV a realistic and convenient option for the area’s residents, businesses and visitors.”
Works will begin in the spring/summer and are expected to be completed by the autumn.
