Emily, the homeless elephant, has been spotted in and around Frome!
Alison Murdoch, of Fair Housing for Frome reports, “Undeterred by the rain (which homeless people are sadly used to) she explained to passers-by at the Wednesday market that she’s currently sofa-surfing in other people’s houses, which makes her one of the town’s many ‘hidden homeless.’
“Emily will be out and about in Frome over the coming months publicizing the situation of people who are either homeless or insecurely housed. From 6th – 10th April (the first week of the Easter holidays) she will take up residence on The Big Red Housing Bus, which will be parked in various places around town including Market Yard, Victoria Park, the Cricket Club, Vallis School and the Key Centre.“
“This is a new project for Fair Housing for Frome,” said FHfF chair Ali Barclay. “After the success of the Zero Nights scheme for single homeless people, we’re now reaching out to families and other people in the town who have less visible housing problems.
“Our friendly team on The Big Red Housing Bus will listen to the problems that local people are experiencing, offer information and support, and provide free refreshments and family-friendly activities.
“If you care about housing and homelessness, please vote for us in the People’s Budget on the Frome Town Hall website (closing date 17th March) and pass the word on to others.” www.fairhousingforfrome.org.uk
