Engaging women, set up in order to support the women of Frome, is holding a meeting at Frome Town Hall on Wednesday 13th December at 7pm to recruit support for the up-coming town council elections.
Rosie Eliot, one of the co-founders of Engaging Women said, “We will offer information and support for those women who want to make a difference and contribute to running this fantastic town.
“The town council already has a fair mix of councillors with eight women and nine men and we hope, by supporting any woman thinking of standing as a candidate, to ensure this is the case after the May elections. We also aim to offer on-going support throughout the four years and will organise training in public speaking, social media and a number of other areas to support individuals in their role as prospective town councillors.
“We are asking the women of Frome to come and join us on Wednesday 13th December for a glass of wine and an informal discussion about standing as a town councillor or supporting others to do so. We want to prove that by working together, we will find a way forward to support those women keen to stand and keep the gender balance at the town council.”
Nikki Lloyd, an organiser of Engaging Women said, “Existing women town councillors will be at the meeting to outline the commitment involved and answer any questions. For those of us with no experience in local town politics, putting your name forward can be challenging, but we want to support any woman interested in standing as a candidate, giving a voice to all women of Frome by ensuring we have a say in the way we do politics in our town.”
