FROME Town FC’s ground is set to be transformed, with exciting plans for a brand new stadium and 4G pitch set to be confirmed soon.
Town’s manager, Danny Greaves says the coming season is likely to be the team’s last at Badgers Hill in its current condition.
Speaking exclusively to Frome Times, Danny said, “All the plans are still a little bit hush hush. But there are rumours out there – the ground is going to be redeveloped, hopefully over the summer in 2021.
“We will still be at Badgers Hill, but it will look completely different. It’s a really exciting time for the club.”
Frome Times understands that the multi-million pound redevelopment of the club’s ground – which has been 20 months in the planning stages – will include a new two-storey clubhouse, gymnasium and a state-of-the-art 4G artifical turf pitch, backed by a new housing development, which will include affordable housing.
The new stadium and clubhouse could transform the finances of the football club.
It would be one of the top footballing facilities in the county, making it an attractive venue for a range of prestigious games and events.
The club has seen how a new stadium at local rivals, Melksham Town, has transformed the on-field and off-field fortunes of that club and hope something similar can be achieved at Frome.
Melksham’s ground, for instance, is used for Wiltshire county youth cup finals while the club has been able to host Swindon Town for pre-season friendlies, attracted by the club facilities and the top playing surface.
The 4G pitch all-weather could be used all-year round without the worry of games being cancelled; requires less maintenance than grass with no watering, mowing or weed removal; and can withstand intensive use, so could be used far more extensively for both matches and training.
A new clubhouse for Frome Town would also allow the club to tap into new sources of revenue to provide a major boost to the club’s finances.
Construction of the new facilities – which would be a joint project between the football club, Mendip District Council and a third-party developer – is hoped to start in the summer of 2021, ready for the new 2021/22 season.
Full details of the redevelopment are expected in the near future.
Frome Times has approached the club for a comment and hopes to bring you more news in the coming weeks.
