FAIR Frome, a new initiative set up to help alleviate poverty in the town, is putting out a call for donations of kitchen utensils and equipment.
Items such as tin openers, vegetable peelers, knives, forks, spoons, mixing bowls, plastic chopping boards and crockery, alongside small electrical items such as kettles and toasters are being requested, for distribution to local families who need these essentials to be able to cook a healthy, filling meal at home.
There has a been a rise in people in Frome and the surrounding area living in poverty, due to changes in benefit reform and the bedroom tax, and many do not have access to these basic essentials that would enable them to eat a cheap but healthy meal.
Did you receive any kitchen equipment for Christmas that you don’t need or have two of something in your drawers at home? Then bring your donations to Fair Frome’s office in the town council building at 5 Palmer Street any Monday to Wednesday from 10.00am to 12.00 noon or call 01373 465757.
Working in partnership with the Warminster and District Food Bank and other local organisations, Fair Frome will distribute these packs to local families and individuals in need of the essentials to cook a warming, healthy meal at home.
Nikki Cox, manager of Fair Frome said, ”We are delighted to be launching Fair Frome’s first initiative, which will be the first of many to support people living in poverty in the area and contribute to making a positive difference to their lives.”
Fair Frome is a new project that has been set up to prevent and relieve financial, educational, social and health poverty for people living in and around the town. This will be achieved through a combination of direct services and through the support and development of other organisations.
