Local Frome charity Fair Frome which runs the food bank and other projects in the town to support vulnerable families and individuals joined the call by Premier League footballer Marcus Rashford to extend the scheme to deliver free school meal vouchers to the summer holidays.
Last week, when the Government did a U-turn and agreed to extend the scheme, the Frome charity welcomed the news. Fair Frome chair Bob Ashford said, “We are extremely pleased to hear the Government has changed direction and will now give free school vouchers to children over the holidays.
“Over 800 children and their families in Frome who receive them will benefit.
“Marcus Rashford has been superb in his championing of this really important issue and wider food poverty and has got his message out to a very wide audience.
“Fair Frome will continue to offer additional support to these families through the food bank, our Food at Five Takeaway, Holiday Hunger and other services and projects.”
